General Tips

Here are some general and easy tips for going zero waste:

  • Take a bag with you when you go grocery shopping.
  • Become more aware of what you’re buying. Try to be conscious when you’re walking through a store. Are there any alternatives?
  • Buy seasonal and fresh food. Usually these products are not pre-packaged in plastic.
  • Buy in bulk. In the long run this means less packaging and usually you get a little discount.
  • Reuse what you already have. Once you get excited about going zero-waste, you want to buy reusable alternatives for everything. But if you already have something that you have been using for years, it’s better to keep reusing that instead of throwing it away. In that way the item won’t turn up on a landfill.
  • Go thrift shopping. A lot of items are still in perfect shape. No need to buy a completely new version of it. Besides, you usually save a penny while doing it as well.
  • Make zero-waste suggestions to local shops. You can get a lot more done that you realize!
